Slab...yeah baby

Well the slab is done.  And we also have no stealing stories this week!

It was scheduled for the Friday but they bought it forward and did it on the Wednesday.  We suspect this was due to the weather.  Friday was supposed to rain and Saturday it was forecast to hail.   By doing it on Wednesday when the weather was fine they missed all of that.

It looks big - really big.  In fact on the block it looks bigger than we envisaged so we will have to wait and see how it looks in the end.  Everything is moving really fast now and in our few drive-by's on our way to and from work we have seen the framing has started so we will be back to take more photos this weekend.

Enjoy the photos including me standing in the kitchen (can't you see it!!!)

Looking down the side where the caravan is supposed to go - will it fit.  The measurements say it should.

The slab!!!

Action...Finally!

Finally we have action happening on our block.  We drive past every morning and night (and even walk past sometime too) hoping for some action.

Finally one day there was diggers there and everything is now happening.

They have dug in towards the back of the block and they have added dirt near the front.  It has all been levelled and prepared for the slab.  The piers have been dug in and cemented and all of the plumbing pipes have been put in place. But the most telling thing that makes it look like a builders block is the big white dunny in the front yard.

We walked around there on Saturday to take a look and to take the photos of the site.  When we arrived there was a girl and a guy in a ute with a trailer backed up to the site and filling their trailer with dirt.  They were acting weirdly and even taking photos of each other doing it.  It seems we had some dirt stealers in our midst - we did consider asking them if they had some beautiful plants as well.  So the dirt pile has been halved.  We rang the site manager and let him know and we have their license plates as well.

The dirt pile halved
Frederik stood and surveyed the new land.  His first comment was that there doesn't look like a lot of room around the sides or at the back. I think however they have moved the dirt out beyond where the slab goes and also the plumbing pipes are deceiving as they have also put in the external drainage pipes so it is hard to tell at the moment where the edges of the house will be.

Here is a photo of the site you can see the slightly higher flat level is the main house area and the lower flat level at the front is where the front porch and balcony will be.

The plumbing pipes sticking up look funny and there is already a broken one (wonder if it was our mystery dirt stealers??) but I am sure it will all get fixed.

So after we had a look around we carefully shut the gate (be gone thieves!!!) and left them to it.  Over the last couple of days there has been much more activity and the reinforcing squares have all been laid over the house area and everything is boxed in ready for the slab.  Unfortunately it is always too dark by the time we get home to take photos.  The slab is due to be poured this Friday (19th July) weather permitting so we will be back to take photos this weekend and update the blog.

Thanks all for reading and sharing this journey with us.  The excitement really starts now...and Frederik is still impatient :-)
