Waste pipes in cupboards and the inspection...

Last weekend when we walked through our house there was a waste pipe sticking out of the doorway of the walk in linen cupboard - that's weird we said why would a waste pipe be there?  There was also one in the hallway - on the wrong side of the wall to where our powder room is.  But we are not builders so we said nothing.

Then on Wednesday our site manager calls us and says "bad news - there are 5 waste pipes in the wrong place we need to cut the slab and redo them.  So Frederik asks "what how common is it that, that many pipes are in the wrong place?"  Apparently uncommon but not unheard of.

So we rang our inspection company and asked them what they want to do.  They recommended inspecting now and also after the cuts and changes to the slab are done.

Therefore on Friday Frederik met with the building inspector and they went through.  There needs to be some further bracings on the framing but on the whole not too bad.  He said that it was clear it was a young crew and they were showing a little bit of a lack of experience. The waste pipes are a problem and it is a lot of work to redo and they will have to be careful.  The recommendations will be going through to the builder and they will need to fix it.

So still happy with it but we wait to see how they deal with the waste pipes issues as well as those identified in the building inspection.

Some more photos now the framing is finished including some from upstairs.  Roof goes on next week.

Front entrance - notice the waste pipe in the hallway, the powder room toilet is actually the frame behind it to the left.

Looking from the guest ensuite into the walk in linen cupboard - see the waste pipe in the doorway?  Just what every linen cupboard needs.

Powder room and wash room - notice no waste pipe plumbing?

Its starting to look like a real house

The house is developing so quickly now - the framing for the ground floor is complete and they are doing the framing for the upper storey.

We went along on Saturday and had a look at it and even managed to work through the shell of the ground floor.  It makes it really look like a proper house and it seems very real now (that and the fact we have made the first payment from the construction loan).  The windows and doors have been delivered and they tell us they will finish the framing on Thursday.

But pictures tell the story best so here they are:
The house with the balcony being built out from the master bedroom at the front.

The garage side wall going up - there will be a roller door at the back of the garage

Windows ready to be installed

The timber sliding doors for the family/dining room as well as the master bedroom.

Looking down the front entrance from the porch (the porch is the lower slab). The stairs will go up on the left hand side (out of shot).

The front entrance - the stairs start about where the bottom of the ladder is.

The guest bedroom and ensuite

Looking at the upstairs, not as finished as downstairs

The walk in linen cupboard downstairs - its going to be one of my favourite rooms! :-)

Looking out the front door

The beautiful back room family/dining/kitchen and the large door openings to the back yard

and below looking at the kitchen through to the butlers pantry.  The island bench will be where the pipes are sticking up and the butlers pantry also has a sink (pipe sticking up).  Lovely big window in the dining room (right hand side of the picture).
